I generated a captcha, put the file into my Wordpress plugin folder,
and activated it, but no captcha appeared on the comment form. Not
sure what I did wrong...

You could enable smart captcha, try to disable it.

Well, you're ahead of me because I don't even see how to get the
plug-in. I've been to the page, looked at the steps and I haven't a
clue what to do because there's no links to download anything that I
can find. The only link that shows up for me is the sign up link.
